Cynthia A. Metzler is President and CEO of Experience Works, the nation’s largest, nonprofit, community-based organization focused on helping low-income older people get the training they need to find jobs in their community.

Ms. Metzler’s 30-year career has spanned the worlds of the law, government, academia and nonprofit organizations.  As an executive, advisor and counselor, she is a visionary, results-oriented, innovative, energetic and skillful leader of people and organizations.

Ms. Metzler began her career providing civil legal services to poor clients in Indiana and Florida, culminating in her service as Executive Director of Florida Rural Legal Services.  Relocating to Washington, D.C., she became Special Assistant and Chief Counsel to the Chairman of the Federal Labor Relations Board before assuming the role of President and Chief Executive Officer of OEF International, a multi-million dollar international organization to develop women’s entrepreneurial and leadership skills in developing countries.

She returned to government service in 1993, as Associate Director of Presidential Personnel at the White House.  She then became Associate Administrator of the General Services Administration and in 1994, she was appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate as Assistant Secretary of Labor.  She subsequently was appointed Acting Deputy Secretary and served for several months as Acting Secretary of Labor where she was responsible for the President’s workforce policies and programs.

Returning to the practice of law, she became a partner in the firm of Pepper Hamilton, LLP, focusing on employment law and public policy.  She was subsequently recruited as Provost and Chief Academic Officer at Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where she served until June 2004.  .

Prior to joining Experience Works in September of 2006, she maintained a consulting practice, The Metzler Group, advising value-driven organizations in areas of developing leaders and strengthening capacity and effectiveness.

Ms. Metzler holds a BA in political science from Purdue University, a JD from Indiana University and a Master’s degree in Organizational Development from American University
